Oscar Wilde, the writer of our first text for study, is an interesting person. There appears to be many contradictions in the picture we form of him from his dramatic and personal writing. What is your understanding of Oscar Wilde, both as a writer and a person? Why is he a writer of enduring interest? Write a paragraph on your impressions.
From everything that i've read and such; i got the impression that Oscar Wilde was a first, a vibrant and enthusiastic writer; with the personality to match. Although after his court case involving charges against homosexuality, his life and said passion went very south, very quickly. Even after those events; his works spark interest in most as they are filled with Wilde-esque wit, humor and criticisms.
ReplyDeletei personally find it interesting that even through all his personal turmoil, he presented such a love for his children, and it is often said what a happy father he was.
I am under the impression that to meet the man Oscar Wilde would not only be quite an interesting experience but also one that would surprise us. He lived this lifestyle and had this personality that went against the times and yet he seems to have been still a very caring and loving father and perhaps even a husband until he realized his own homosexuality. His Wilde-esque wit makes his plays and works a pleasure to read as they are amusing to even the more modern audience. From the readings we have done in class and information online it appears that not only was he a large man but he was had a very different kind of personality than I would have expected, he wouldn't have really fit my idea of a poetic figure and yet he is a very intelligent writer and a great literary figure which just shows that appearances and first impressions can be deceiving.
